JESS FLOOD PADDOCK [ARTIST]
"Her thoroughly thought out and often-witty work uses cement and other building materials to give a roughly finished look that can feel edgy and unsettling at times. Not having had any formal training in fabricating using these materials, Flood-Paddock has picked up what she can when needed, through, as she describes, “awkward conversations in DIY shops”. "
(DAZED & CONFUSED)
(DAZED DIGITAL / CONVERSE EMERGING ARTIST SHORTLIST)- 2010
"Jess Flood-Paddock’s sculpture is centred in the solitude and dialogue of her studio practice, questioning the actions and objects of making in such a way as to dislodge the expectations attatched to weight, to gesture, to material. Without relying on perceptual games her table-top pieces fox the eye - assuming a monumentality beyond their scale"
(STANDPOINT LONDON)
Jess Flood-Paddock trained at the Slade (BA Fine Art 2000) and the RCA (MA Sculpture 2005). Her work has featured in several group shows nationally including Transformer, Woburn Square, 2007; New Contemporaries, London and Liverpool 2006.

UD Presents... Guests give us their top 5 songs of the year!
We asked some of previous guests from this year's round of live shows to provide us with their top 5 songs of the year. Here's what they said...
Wild Palms
Caribou- Jamelia
Along with 'Odessa', this is one of Caribou's finest tracks and an excellent example of how Caribou's music has now developed into something ultimately more accessible whilst retaining the distinctly experimental touches he's known for
Warpaint - Shadows
Whistful, ethereal vocals run over the top of a haunting, threatening track.
Lil' Wayne - I'm Single
Lyrically brilliant
Tristram - Dust Disturbed
Londoner's Tristram might be ones to watch this year. Their track 'Dust Disturbed' has an incredibly creepy video to go along with it...
Oneohtrix Point Never - Returnal
Visions of Trees
Nicki Minaj - Did It On 'Em
Filthy, dirty but catchy as fuck
Becoming Real - Showdown In Chinatown
(Becoming Real joins us to headline our show on February 24th- Don't Miss!)
oOoOO - Burnout Eyess
oOoOO are a pretty exceptional talent to emerge this year.
You can hear more of them here...

or listen to Visions of Trees own remix here...
Girl Unit - Wut
Hugely prominent track in a year that has seen the Night Slugs label really take off
Lil B - The World's Ending
Experimenting in genre and with spoken word, Lil B is a rapper that consistently tries to shake off labels and truly broaden people's horizons
Run Toto Run
One of my favourite acts, they'll be joining us again on March 10th for a super special show at The Harley. In the meantime you can watch their official video for the new single 'This Is A Lull' here and check out their preferred tracks of the year below...
Blue Hawaii - Blue Gowns
Infectious vocals and ethereal pop that sounds like it was made under water. Lovely...

Jai Paul - BTSTU
I'm so very glad Run Toto Run agree with me that this was one of the best songs to come out of 2010. One of the BBC's Sounds of 2011, so watch out for this chap
Tanlines - Real Life
New Yorker's Tanlines have really got noticed this year, thanks in no small part to this excellent track and an accompanying remix by the genius that is Memory Tapes.
Caribou - Odessa
Infectious stuff
Neon Indian - Terminally Chill
Blissful Summery vibes
Plus you can download Run Toto Run's latest single here for absolutely nothing. Just right click & save as on the link below...

Age Of Consent
Cassius - I Love You So
Cassius of Ed.Banger records fame released this charming, sumptuous piece of blissful electro earlier this year with an insanely cool video to go along with it...
White Ring - LXC999
Gothic, dark and dirty
HEALTH - Die Slow
A top year for Health saw them support Crystal Castles amongst other great things. Awesome song. They seem to be the new DFA 1979 for the moment
Yeasayer - Madder Red
Few artists can boast the success that Yeasayer had this year after the release of 'Odd Blood' in February that included the rather smashing single 'O.N.E' and this gem too...
Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart
Despite looking like a total cretin in the video, it's actually a pretty decent track.

Oneohtrix Point Never - Returnal
Oneohtrix Point Never, aka Brooklyn-based musician Daniel Lopatin, creates "Drone Heavy Psychedelia" according to the chaps over at Pitchfork. They also gave his album, of the same name, a healthy 8.2!
